Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins, Minnesota

As a child, I grew up going to concerts and stage productions from a young age.  It seems, however, that ticket prices have gone up and up and up, and so, although I’ve wanted to take my kids to a children’s theater production for quite some time, prices at the Children’s Theatre in Minneapolis were always out of my affordability range.  (For upcoming productions, ticket prices range from $25 for children to $40 for adults.  For a family of six, this adds up to some serious money.)

We have found some quality, albeit lesser-known, theater productions, however.  Old Log Theatre, in the Minneapolis suburb of Excelsior, offer’s children’s productions two or three times a year, for about $15 a ticket.  Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, offers an annual children’s production at a very affordable rate.  And Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins, Minnesota, another Minneapolis suburb, also offers quality children’s theater productions for about $15 a ticket.

We saw Nancy Carlson’s I Like Me! at Stages and were delighted with the show.  Talented local kids made up the cast, and the show was geared towards youngsters.    The play was not long (about an hour), and it had plenty of music and dancing and of course the familiar “I Like Me” story and characters.

The theatre is housed in the Hopkins Community Center, a modern building in the heart of Hopkins.  The little touches, like booster seats for kids so they can see, and reminders to use the bathroom before the show starts, make it a good experience for kids.

I won tickets to I Like Me by following Stages on twitter (http://twitter.com/StagestheatreCo); they also have a Facebook page that’s worth following.

We’d love to find more affordable quality theatre productions or concerts to take in with our kids.  Can you recommend any?

There have been BOGO coupons for Stages in the Entertainment Book (didn’t get one this year, so can’t say for sure). And you can get a BOGO coupon from Tropicana through here: http://juicyrewards.tropicana.com/login/home.aspx Right now you can use code LA73E CL9W4 to get a free point. You can even use that 1 pt to get a free BOGO coupon already (coupons to Stages are 6 pts). You could check out the RADZoo in Owatonna with a coupon from there, if you haven’t been there already.
