Children’s Discovery Museum in Normal, Illinois
One of the benefits of a museum membership that includes reciprocity to many children’s museums is that we can often work a fun pitstop into a long car trip without it costing us a lot. Such was the case as we traveled from Ohio to Minnesota and needed to stretch our legs on a wintry day. We wound our way into downtown Normal, Illinois, and spent some time at the Children’s Discovery Museum.
With several thematic areas, our kids loved the museum. From the Fetch Lab (our kids love Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman) to the creativity area upstairs to the little-kid area to the giant climber, there were many fun activities for the kids. As farmers, it was nice to see a well-done agricultural exhibit to showcase the importance of ag in Illinois’ history and economy.
We were there on a Christmas vacation Saturday, so the museum was quite busy, but children in the museum were polite and took turns with crowded exhibits.
The museum is a little complicated to find, so if you’re not familiar with the area, be sure to follow directions given on the museum’s website for location and parking information.
The Children’s Discovery Museum in Normal, Illinois, is a pleasant museum with a good variety of hands-on exhibits for children. I recommend it as a destination for Illinois residents or as a stopping point for those traveling through.
