Food Allergies and Traveling

Published by minnemom at 10:44 am under Family Travel

I’ve mentioned before that my son was diagnosed with a peanut allergy four years ago.  I’ve also had kids who were allergic to milk, soy, and eggs in infancy, but who have since outgrown those allergies.  We’ve gotten to be good at reading labels and asking lots of questions, especially when eating at restaurants.

I wrote about some of our food allergy tactics a few weeks ago, but for those who want more information about the trials and successes of special diets, which include current restrictions from dairy, gluten, soy, rice, and more, I’ve started a separate blog that outlines our situation.  Please visit Food Restrictions if you want to see how we’re doing with this, or if you know someone who could use some information or support in dealing with food allergies and intolerances.

We’re not letting it slow us down; we’ve already gone on a day trip with two successful restaurant outings even with all of the restrictions.  (I find myself being very thankful for high fructose corn syrup at this point in time, as it allows our son to have special treats like root beer.)

Travels with Children will continue to be about the interesting places we find and the fun things we do, and Food Restrictions will complement it with the allergy side of our daily life.  I hope you’ll continue to read both.
