Photo Friday: Tires
It’s always interesting for me to see what people like to collect, and what they do with their collections.
Take, for instance, this collection, located off a gravel road northwest of the tiny town of Tolna, North Dakota.
Old tires, neatly stacked into a fenceline.
A LOT of old tires.
Do you see those black lines throughout the photo? Yes, those are all stacks of tires. And there are more on the other side of the nearby farmstead. All in all, the tires surround and divide about 80 acres of land.
When I see things like this, I always wonder: Where did all the tires come from? How long did it take to stack them? Was it one person’s passion, or a group effort? Was there a specific reason for it?
When traveling, we have the opportunity to see so many things–beautiful and breathtaking as well as eccentric. No matter what we find, or what we think of it, it’s all part of the journey.
What are some unusual things you’ve encountered while traveling?

I like the way you presented this, from close-up to far away.
It seems like we’ve seen a lot of unusual things while traveling. For some reason, one of the funniest was driving through South Dakota and seeing sign after sign after sign advertising Wall Drug, which used to be a small family pharmacy and is now sort of a mini-mall/amusement park. After about 200 signs, you are just dying to see the place!

Wow. Cool pictures! I love the use of old tires. That fence will be around for generations to come. Its nice to see people recycling in new ways.

how bizarre is that? Amazing the unusual things you see when you travel!
I would build one of those but my HOA would kill me! A making of video of the creation of this monumental fence would be very interesting.

Agree with Glennia, I like the progression of photos, because the last one is quite unexpected in it’s vast assortment of tires! On a quest to sift through my photos archives and come up with a weirdest thing!

I was going to mention the recycling angle, too. This looks like a much better use for tires to me than chucking them in a landfill or burning them!

That must have taken forever. A good way to recycle old tires though.
