Celebrity Sightings at the Minnesota State Fair

Published by minnemom at 7:42 pm under Festivals and Events Tags: ,

I took the kids back to the Minnesota State Fair yesterday, and we learned that it is possible–and fun–to visit the fair twice in one year.  Each experience was fun, and different, and the kids had a hard time deciding which trip they liked best.

It turns out that our second day at the fair was peppered with celebrity sightings and meetings, and we sat down for a few shows instead of walking all day.  Here’s how our day went:

When we went to the Dairy Building, we got a chance to meet Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Elizabeth Olson, and have our picture taken with her and two of the Princess Kay finalists.  Princess Kay was very kind and well-spoken, and took the time to talk to the kids.  For my daughter, meeting Princess Kay and getting a limited-edition Princess Kay trading card was definitely the highlight of the day.  Can you imagine, meeting a real princess when you’re five?

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie was at a booth at his department’s booth in the Education Building.  He, too, was great with the kids, and thanked me for being an election judge.

Radio Disney was in Carousel Park for the day, and my son was chosen to go on stage to play a game during one of their shows.  He said he was really nervous, but had a lot of fun in his stage debut.

The Teddy Bear Band played outside the Education Building, and the weather was perfect for dancing in the street.  My older kids had seen the Teddy Bear Band when they were younger, but it was fun to see my three-year-old dance along for the first time.

Last but not least, we were at the Famous Dave’s stand when Famous Dave himself stopped by.  He autographed a paper towel for me (with a picture of Wilbur the pig and a great inscription) and then posed for photos with us before asking if I’d take a picture of him with Wally the Beerman (another celebrity who was serving beer for Famous Dave’s).

I was also happy to meet Jay, the winner of the Famous Dave’s Famous Fans competition, who was in town with his wife as part of his grand prize.  Jay’s a great guy and completely deserved to be the most Famous Fan this summer.  (I tied for third for my Famous Fan efforts.)

All in all, it was a great day at the Minnesota Fair.

Don’t forget, tomorrow (Wednesday, September 2) is Read & Ride Day; there are special activities in Carousel Park brought to you by your Minnesota libraries, and you can receive discounted admission for each adult or child who shows their library card at the gate.

Only six days left.  Enjoy the Fair!
