American Gothic Statue in Chicago, IL

One of my must-see items when in Chicago was the American Gothic statue. Located between the Chicago River and the Tribune building on Michigan Avenue, the sculpture depicts the American Gothic duo on vacation (perhaps to the Art Institute of Chicago, which is home to their famous painting).

Didn’t I read on your blog somewhere that you and your kids love finding all things larger than life?! I bet your kids got a kick out of this picture!

Love this! I haven’t been to Chicago since I was in college. Seeing all of the recent Chicago pics in the travel friday photos is making me yearn to visit.

Wow this is great. I must have been sleeping, I never saw that when I was wandering around Chicago last week. Nice subject.

Jen, I didn’t have the kids along on this trip so I have to take them back now to see the American Gothic Statue, especially since we used the American Gothic painting as an “I Spy” piece at the Art Institute last time we were in Chicago. They’d love this statue!

Caitlin, American Gothic is a famous painting by artist Grant Wood. I was captivated with his work when I lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he had his studio.

American Gothic is often spoofed, but I think this might be my favorite rendition.
