The Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN
One of the things on our summer to-do list was to see a Minnesota Twins game at the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis during their last season at this venue. Next season the Twins will move to Target Field on the other side of downtown, so if our kids were ever going to see a game at the dome, this summer was our chance.
We hit the jackpot on Father’s Day, when we asked the kids for outing ideas and our six-year-old asked if the Twins were playing at home. A quick check of the schedule, a few phone calls about tickets while en route, and we were on our way.
It turns out that seeing a Twins game on a Sunday this summer is one of the best family values in town. With each adult ticket purchased for the Home Run Porch or Cheap Seats, two kids under 14 can get in for free. For us, that meant the six of us saw the game for $16. We paid $6 for parking and $11 for shared snacks. Tickets to minor league games like the St. Paul Saints or the Mankato Moondogs would have run $25-$30 for our family, so the Blue Bunny Kids Day promotion is a great deal.
We sat way up high, so we couldn’t see the players all that well, but our purpose was the entire Metrodome experience. Smell the popcorn, see the big screens, feel the wind as you enter and exit the building, hear the organ, sing at the seventh inning stretch, do the wave with the other fans–this is what’s fun about going to the dome. After the game, we went down on the field where the kids ran the bases. They loved it!
The Twins lost their Fathers’ Day game, but we had a great time at the Metrodome as a family. Next summer we’ll have to try to see the Twins at their new ballpark.

What a great deal! I wonder if this Hubert Humpfrey is the same guy as our neighbor.
He has a huge estate near my house in Cumming, GA.
Going to a baseball game with kids is a given that we won’t be able to finish the game or even spend as much time watching. But I agree that it’s all about the experience.
