Caitlin's right--it is canola. This was the first I'd seen it so close to my parents' house. When I grew up it was wheat, durum, barley, sunflowers, and occasionally corn. Soybeans came later, and most recently, canola to the area.

It was beautiful when we were there, but my sister-in-law said it will start to be really smelly in a few weeks.

I use canola oil almost exclusively now. Did you know that Canola Harvest brand oil is made in a dedicated factory, important for people who are concerned about cross-contaminated with peanut and other oils for allergy reasons.

Sorry, no prize, but thanks for your guesses, and congrats to Caitlin who knew the answer!

Cate's guess sounds as good as any to me :)

I've no clue, but I love yellow flowers and love the look of the field, especially in the last photo.

I'm pretty sure it's canola, also known as rapeseed. Do I get a prize?!
