Waving the Flag

One of my favorite things about summer in our area is that the local communities have flag displays. Some have an “avenue of flags” near a veterans memorial or government building, and others, like my small town, line Main Street with American flags.

There’s something special about seeing lines of American flags waving in the breeze.

We don’t have firm plans for Independence Day, and that’s all right.  We’ll find something fun to do as a family and enjoy the freedom we have here in the U.S.A.

What are your plans for the 4th of July?

One of my fondest memories growing up was our annual neighborhood 4th of July parade of bikes. We would spend hours decorating our bikes with red, white and blue streamers and unveil them the morning of the 4th. Then we’d take a ceremonial bike ride around the neighborhood. It was awesome. It was a great way for neighbors to get together and have some fun.

I love seeing flags on small town main streets, too. Happy 4th of July to you and your family.

I know what you mean. I always get a little thrill from seeing lots of people waving union jacks at parades. There’s something very special about your country’s flag.

We love celebrating 4th of July in Cape Cod. Nothing like clambakes, flip flops, and fireworks to celebrate!

I have never experienced small town feeling till 3 years ago when we moved to Northern suburb of Atlanta. It has such a great feeling to see the parade and flag all over the town center. Great picture!

I remember during the U.S. presidential campaign there was so much talk about ‘main street’ and ‘wall street’. What an awesome example of good old fashioned Main Street. The comment about decorating your bikes for a parade just gave me a great idea for this afternoon! OK, where are our streamers…

Classic! Right down to the bench in front of the Post Office and the pick-’em-up truck. All you need is a couple of town gossips sitting on the bench and talking to everyone passing by them!
