Behind the Scenes at the Medora Musical
If you’re planning to see the Medora Musical while visiting North Dakota, I recommend going an hour early and attending the Behind the Scenes backstage tour. It begins at 7:15 p.m., and fits in nicely between the Pitchfork Fondue and the Musical itself. If you have kids, not only will they enjoy the tour, but they’ll get rid of some wiggles before the show and be more interested in the show when they’ve set foot on the set.
The tour begins with some history of the musical before heading down to the stage. Guests can step inside the set buildings and see how they move around the stage, then go down to the dressing rooms and out back for a good view of the elk on the hill before heading to their seats.
The Behind the Scenes tour offers a cast member’s view of the amphitheatre. It was interesting for me, but I think the kids liked it even more. They’re still talking about going into the set building, and they recognized costumes during the show that they had seen backstage.
Admission to the tour can only be purchased if you’re also seeing the musical, and it’s an extra $4-$6 per student or adult. (Preschoolers are free.) The tour was well-done, and I’d recommend it for families attending the Medora Musical.
Note: We received complimentary admission to the Behind the Scenes tour. This does not affect my assessment of the program.
