An Affordable Theatre Outing

I want to be able to take my kids to theatre and musical productions, but often the cost is prohibitive.  Paying $20, $30, or more for a ticket when you have a family of six gets expensive in a hurry.  Add in Ticketmaster charges and downtown parking, and I usually shy away.

Finally, though, I found a production that’s affordable.  Old Log Theatre in Excelsior, MN, is doing a summer children’s production of Treasure Island.  Tickets are normally $15, but GoCityKids has a coupon for $5 off if you act fast (Coupon ends June 15; shows run through July).

That brings the cost per ticket to $10.
Parking is free.
And you order directly through the theatre site, with no Ticketmaster fees.

I’m excited to see the show!

We are fortunate to live about an hour from a “major city” that has children’s theatre productions. As homeschoolers, we can get kid tickets to productions every month or two for less than $5 per child (for school-age children). They don’t charge for the adult or the kids under school-age. It is a GREAT resource.

The rest of the theatre is filled with public schooled children who get bused over for the productions. They probably have the chance to go to one per year or one every other year.

If we went to the evening productions of these shows, we’d pay $20+ per ticket including Ticketmaster fees & such.
