Elfreth’s Alley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Elfreth’s Alley in Philadelphia is the oldest residential street in America. The narrow street, which is a National Historic Site, is lined with brick homes that are still occupied under private ownership. It was interesting to imagine what life was like when these homes (and our country) were new. The 32 houses were built between 1728 and 1836 and have changed hands numerous times. A museum located in two of the homes tells their story.
Elfreth’s Alley is just a few blocks from the Betsy Ross House and from Fireman’s Hall Museum.
