Historic Fort Snelling in St. Paul, MN

In light of possible closures of several Minnesota Historical Society locations, we’re on a mission to visit as many as we can in May and June.  Although Historic Fort Snelling would remain open under the MNHS plan, it would be open to the public only five days a week rather than the current seven.

After visiting the Alexander Ramsey House, we went over to Historic Fort Snelling.  Through the MNHS newsletter that had just arrived, we saw that they were hosting an American Girls program (including a drawing for an American Girls doll) and that there was a scavenger hunt available for the kids.

We got to the visitor center, signed up for the drawing, and headed out to the fort for a while, then returned for the well-done program about the American Girl Kirsten and things from her life in 1854.  Then we went back to the fort to do the scavenger hunt.  The kids were so excited to receive their prize, a button proclaiming them members of the Fort’s kids club.  They also liked helping the blacksmith in his shop and playing checkers in the sutler’s store.

Historic Fort Snelling is a place you can visit again and again and always learn something new.

(For American Girl fans, they plan to have special programs during World War II Days and Civil War Days this summer.)

    Hi,

My daughter and I visited Fort Snelling on her 5th grade class trip to Minneapolis. One of the grade schools here in northern MN takes 5th graders on a trip to Mpls/St. Paul every year and it is a great time. We enjoyed visiting the fort very much. :)
