Target Center Tour
A tour of an arena or stadium can be an interesting way of getting behind the scenes and seeing areas you wouldn’t normally have access to, and it usually costs little or nothing.
In Minneapolis, the Target Center offers free tours on Thursdays at 2:00. You just show up at the ticket office and you’re on your way.
The poor man who was about to get a private tour had his destiny changed the day the kids and I arrived to take the tour with him. We started out on the floor of the Target Center, which didn’t look much like a basketball arena in its state of preparation for a Britney Spears concert.
We were given facts about the arena–when it was built, how many seats, how much the scoreboard weighs, etc.–and saw the arena from top (old press box) and bottom (arena floor). In between, we were taken through various locker rooms and other rooms that serve various purposes depending on the event being held at the Target Center. We got an inside look at a suite and Club Cambria and a back-hallway look at some of the service areas.
Our guide was good with the kids, although there were times that we could have moved out of a room more quickly instead of hearing about all of the acts that have performed at the Target Center. On the other hand, it was interesting to hear stories about prior events; our guide doubles as an usher and had experiences that he liked to share with us.
Our tour of the Target Center lasted about an hour, and we got to see a good part of the building. One son had been there recently, and he enjoyed showing us where his seat had been in addition to seeing things he hadn’t seen when attending a basketball game.
We enjoyed our tour of the Target Center, especially since it was free and there wasn’t a big crowd of people along with us.

That’s neat! We have the same thing the Turner Field – Home of the Braves. But I haven’t managed to arrive early enough to take advantage of this yet.
you know, i’m a sucker for tours. I’ve never done this one, but in Costa Rica there is a tour of the milk production corporation. I’ve never had the chance to go because you need to know someone. it’s really silly, you need a connection to take a tour:) but, I finally met someone who works there and I’m going to go. I love this stuff, and it’s great for the kids to see how things work!
