Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge

When in Gettysburg, we needed a reasonably-priced room that would accommodate the six of us.  The place that fit the bill was the Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge.  We could have found a newer, fancier hotel on the outskirts of town, but the price there was prohibitive.  This hotel was near some of the Gettysburg museums and shops, and not far from the National Park Service Visitor Center.

This is a sprawling property, made up of several buildings.  In true “motor lodge” style, the room number for each parking space is painted on the curb, so you know which spot is yours and are only a few feet from your door.

Our room was one that made us wonder why more hotels haven’t figured this out.  It wasn’t fancy, wasn’t named a “suite,” and didn’t have a pull-out sofa.  What it did have, however, was plenty of space, and three double beds all in a row.  This is a configuration I’d love to see in more lodgings to accommodate families larger than four.

We didn’t try the indoor swimming pool, which was located in its own building.  Wi-fi was advertised, but the signal was very weak from our room.  In the morning, free breakfast was offered in yet another building, an old house on the property.  (In the evenings, a saloon was open in the basement of that house.)

I wish we could find more accommodations like this on our travels:  clean, unpretentious, spacious, and friendly, with a parking spot ten feet from the room door.  For our family, it was just right.
