All I Want for Christmas . . .

A blogging friend issued a challenge to fellow bloggers– to describe what we might want for Christmas, or would like to give someone else.  Is it surprising that most of my “I’d love to have or give” list is travel-related?  So, here it is.

  1. Where to Go When: The Americas.  This is actually going to be a gift for my in-laws, who have a lot more travel flexibility than I do.
  2. The Most Scenic Drives in America.  I already received this (two copies, in fact!) at an early Christmas celebration.  I love finding new scenic routes to take me off the beaten path.
  3. Roadside Attractions: Cool Cafes, Souvenir Stands, Route 66 Relics, and other Road Trip Fun.  I’d love to see how many of these I’ve seen already, and how many more I can get to.  These big things beside the road can be a lot of fun, especially when traveling with kids.
  4. National Treasure DVD.  Someone recommended it as a good film to watch before we head to Philadelphia.  I saw it a while ago and had forgotten all about it.
  5. Books for the kids about places we’re going to go or have already been.  That reminds me, I need to find a copy of Megan O’Hara’s lighthouse book now that we’ve been to Split Rock, and her
  6. General Store book now that we’ve been to Historic Forestville.
  7. Books about the Lincoln Highway.  Some people are fans of Route 66, but I’ve been intrigued with the Lincoln Highway since I lived in Iowa and traveled one of its segments daily.
  8. An iPod Touch.  I could sync our itineraries with my calendar, use the wi-fi to find travel info, play podcast tours in the car, and much, much more.
  9. Any “Places to See” or
  10. Off the Beaten Path” books.
  11. Most anything by the Minnesota Historical Society Press.  The history,
  12. photo, and
  13. travel books they publish are excellent.

What gifts do you have planned for the traveler in your life? What travel items would you love to find under the tree?

I’d love some tickets to Florida or anyplace warm really. My kids really want to go on an airplane. I like to fly but it makes me twitchy thinking about flying with my kids.

I would love to take my younger sisters (ages 19 and 15) with me to Italy. It won’t happen this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to take them with me soon. They are fabulous, and I want to share my passion with them.

I bought my BIL National Treasure the year it was released. He was less than thrilled. I, however, just love it!

    Good T-13!

All of these sound fun. I love travel writing, although more of the humorous and novel type books than guidebooks, but all of these sound interesting. Cool TT.

Let me start by saying I am in no means a drunk… but…

For Christmas I’d like the giant wine glass that holds an entire bottle of wine. I think it would be fun to bring it out during parties. I’d offer a friend a glass of wine in a regular glass and as she starts drinking it, I could pull out the giant one and fill it up. I would be hilarious!!!

We will see how good Santa really knows me!

IT would be hilarious, not me. I found my typo.

I would love some Sea World passes or museum memberships so we could have some vacations at home.

Time off for my DH so we could actually travel would be great…and cheap gas…we just got a new to us SUV.

A hotel room anywhere..my kids love hotels.

Wonderful novels to read while traveling.

We just got back from our big family trip to Disneyland so we are all tapped out right now travel budget wise. We may accompany my husband on a Vegas business trip this new years…that should be interesting!

Sorry it took me so long to do my list. I was waiting on a few other folks. But it’s up and I included your info off this post. I hope that’s okay. I think it turned out pretty well.

It’s obvious I’m not using my iTouch for nearly enough things! I’ve got mostly music, a few podcasts and some French language lessons on mine…the niftiest thing I may do with it is to use it with it’s little radio transmitter attachment to listen to my music using the clock radio in motel rooms :)

You’ve got some interesting books on your list. I’m afraid to look at the list I keep on amazon.com, ‘coz it’s so long! A mix of travel books, movie-related books, bios, art books…I saw a box come in here the other day, so I may get a book or two off of the list this Christmas!

This winter, I’d love some decent snow here so we could cross-country ski in the park behind the house. With Tim laid off, we’ve got the time to do things, but money to travel extensively right now isn’t so plentiful.

I hope you get everything on your list ;-) I’ve decided I don;t want anything because I’m in the process of simplifying, but I can always make an exception for an excellent travel book.
