I actually get guide books from my state and visit the visitor's bureau website to get ideas for around here. We also have found great ideas just on our local news sites for things to do. I have found the best source is moms in our town though. My mom's group have given me tons of great ideas for things to do around here and it was invaluable when we first moved to the area to have those friends to offer their tour guide expertise :) Fabulous topic! We've found tha the local "events paper" is a good resource, but also a few quick web searches often reveal plenty of excellent options... and lately, having an iPhone along for the ride has really made it easy.
